Snow Sculptures in Anchorage at Fur Rondy
Bundle up and get ready to Rondy! Fur Rendezvous (locally known as Fur Rondy), held in downtown Anchorage every year, has a little something for everyone. Fur Rondy is a beloved 10-day festival that’s been going on since 1935 and usually includes a carnival, parade, fireworks show, sled dog races, and unique fun that you’ll only find in Alaska. One of our favorite annual spectacles that takes place during this event is the Alaska State Snow Sculpture Championship.
Each year, artists of all levels create intricate works of art with huge blocks of compressed snow to be showcased at the annual event. Check out this year’s masterpieces from February 25 until March 6. Make sure to keep track of your favorites because there’s even the opportunity for you to cast your vote in the People’s Choice Award. There will be a ballot box onsite, and judging begins on February 27.
Division 1 winners will have the opportunity to go to the U.S. National Snow Sculpting Championship to compete and represent Alaska’s team. The ice sculptures at Fur Rondy are just a taste of the incredible works of cold art to experience in Alaska. For more fun, head up north!
